I keep ringin the darn Elevator Phone but no one is picking up! And what in the Hell happened to the barn!
I grew up in the 50, 60 s at 575auburn st , only 2 streets past Sheldon .you could walk to the corner of farmer an Sheldon an watch the Cassady plow the land ,from the front of there house to the RR tracks where western electric sits .back then it was one big field . Really sad to see houses built on the farm land.!!!!!!!

I grew up in New England Village on Sheldon and N. Territorial. We used to walk quite far (it seemed anyway) down N. Territorial and over a hill to “Cassady Pond”. Is this related to these people? There was the foundation of an old house. We used to dig in there and found some broken dishes with blue and white designs. It was very peaceful up there. I was so incredibly sad when they built a bunch of Mcmansions on all of that beautiful land. There were fields of wild flowers and birds and animals. It was all plowed down and paved and I don’t know what happened to the pond. I hated that. So sad.
I also grew up in New England Village. I’m not sure where your Cassady Pond is. There were two ponds (that I know of) down N Territorial. One on the south side, with a white ranch style house up the hilll, and the second pond was on the North side of Territorial, just past the cemetery and over the hill, dug by the fed gov wpa program, rectangle, and a third judge north of the road before the cemetery. I don’t think any belonged to the Cassady’s. The one north of Territorial west of the cemetary looks like it was either enlarged when they put in the subdivision, or they filled it in and built two others. But that rectangle pond isn’t there or looks different. Played and fell in this one many times.
P.S. New England Village was the Cassady farm.
My mother worked at Cassady’s store for many years. She was a friend of Norma Cassady and when Mrs. C got old my mother looked after her. Mrs. C always talked about writing a book about her life and the hardships she went through to become a female entrepreneur back in the early 1900’s. Her stories were fascinating and mom offered to take the dictation for her but sadly it never happened. I visited Mrs. C with my mother many times and the place sure didn’t look then like it does now! I remember the barn and the garden that my mom would water when Mrs. C couldn’t, but she was quite a gal. I remember how awesome it was that she had an elevator in her house. Good memories
